About
The Medieval period is a period of human history, mainly linked to Europe, which took place generally between the fall of the Westen Roman Empire in 476 AD and the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire/the discovery of America by Columbus in either 1400 or 1492. It's rather insultingly known as the 'Dark Ages' because of the supposed lack of any relevant inventions. But you know what it did have? Knights, courtley love, dragons, violent torture methods, heraldry and lots and lots and lots of wars.

Why do I like the Middle Ages so much?
From a naive perspective, it's because this period is the closest to a fantasy world Earth has ever come. Not only in the aesthetic realm, but also in the way people thought. You could find bestiaries which told you with absolute certainty that swallows were born from barnacles and that chameleons looked like rainbow horses. It was a simpler time, where everything seemed sincere. As a big heraldry and vexillology fan, this period is also super interesting!! You can find tons of epic flags and coats of arms from this time, often with weird designs like the coat of arms of Hensbroek.

My favorite Medieval subjects

King Richard III of England

Richard III was the last Plantagenet king of England from 1483 to 1485. he is only really known for two things: Having killed the Princes in the Tower and having his remains dug up in a chruch's car park. Truth is, Richard probably didn't kill the Princes in the Tower. He also never had a limp, never killed his wife or brother, and of course never said 'A horse, my kingdom for a horse!' That was all Shakespeare.

The Battle of hastings

Taking place in 1066 in, you know, Hastings,
